The Churchlands electoral district was formed in 1994, largely replacing the previous seat of Floreat. It is made up of the suburbs of Churchlands, Glendalough, Wembley Downs, Woodlands and part of the suburbs of City Beach, Doubleview, Floreat, Osborne Park, Scarborough, Wembley and West Leederville.
From formation to 2013, the seat was held by an independent, Dr Liz Constable. It is currently held by the WA Labor Party with a 0.8% margin.
The Churchlands electoral district falls within the Federal division of Curtin, currently held by independent Kate Chaney, MP.
